ASTRON is the Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy. Our mission is to make discoveries in radio astronomy happen. We do this by the development of new and innovative technologies, the operation of world-class radio astronomy facilities, and the pursuit of fundamental astronomical research. Engineers and astronomers at ASTRON have an outstanding international reputation for novel technology development, and fundamental research in galactic and extra-galactic astronomy. At ASTRON, we develop the software that is used to drive our telescopes and process the data they generate. Apart from operating current-day world-class facilities like LOFAR and Apertif, we are also involved in the development and design of future facilities, like the Square Kilometre Array and novel algorithms to perform more efficient processing of complex radio data. Another compute intensive activity is the development towards a Science Data Centre that will support users in processing the large amounts of SKA data to come.
