Theme: Evolution of software development and management
My year of Agile, a middle management perspective
In this past year many teams in MAST and the Data Management Division at STScI were introduced to Agile software development as our primary development model. This paper will map one teams experience through the lens of the 12 principles of the Manifesto for Agile Software Development. The principles will be used as a measurement to both evaluate and illustrate how close or far we are from Agile adoption. From the perspective of Product Owner in middle management, I’ll highlight change management areas and role definition as it pertains to customers, stakeholders, developers, scrum masters and teams. In addition, I’ll describe how this change affected product and software development. The goal of this paper is to share with the engineering astronomy community an experience of Agile adaption, incorporate feedback and learn from others experiences to find what helped them through their own organizations transition.
